I don't think we can be so sure, particularly with Heckel's identification involved. I repeat myself, there is no way to tell he was wrong. Even being Recife and Guapore River so far apart. We know of many cichlids with such a wide distribution area (also in the Amazon) and yet we don't doubt they represent one species through all their distribution (unless we were talking about Australoheros ), it has first to be proven that the Guapore cichlid can not be found in the area where Perca bimaculata was found.
