Has Acara margarita been rediscovered?

New cichlid species and taxonomy

I have created a record for Perca bimaculata, for the moment being as unidentified species. With unnecessary "new combinations" is Sparus acara and Acara margarita. Perhaps I should also add a "new name" category to avoid confusion (e.g. using new combination instead).

I don't think we can be so sure, particularly with Heckel's identification involved. I repeat myself, there is no way to tell he was wrong. Even being Recife and Guapore River so far apart. We know of many cichlids with such a wide distribution area (also in the Amazon) and yet we don't doubt they represent one species through all their distribution (unless we were talking about Australoheros :D ), it has first to be proven that the Guapore cichlid can not be found in the area where Perca bimaculata was found.

We can never be sure, of course. But proving that the Guaporé cichlid can not be found in the area where Perca bimaculata (most likely) was found is quite impossible. Any comparison of a cichlid found there with the description of Perca bimaculata will fail because of the inadequacy of the illustration.
