New cichlid species and taxonomy

Pterophyllum

The past few years, I have been following discussions here regarding nomenclatural changes in Australoheros, Heros, Symphosodon, Mesonauta and others. I was wondering if anyone is currently working on the Genus Pterophyllum with a view to possibly splitting it up.

Some years ago there was a German biology student who mentioned – to our surprise – that he is preparing to describe (at least) a half dozen new species of pterophyllum. However, no paper appears.
Nevertheless, I have no doubts that one day there will be someone who split P. scalare in many species. The desire to name new species is absolutely insatiable.

   Selffulfilling prophecy: Author wants to write article about new species - Author looks for species to describe - Author describes new species - Desire to write article about new species fulfilled. Repeat as often as there are colour and shapes :)
