what kind of paint do you guys use to paint the back of your fishtank to minimize the water damage thanks scott

I paint the outside, NOT the inside and use normal paint for wood

You have a couple choices:

You can lay on latex paint with a brush or a roller. Just lay it on nice and thick. This is the easiest way. The problem is that it is the least durable way so you have to be careful not to scrape it off.

You can also use spray paint. The thing is it is not real easy to get spray paint to stick to glass. I find that hobby paint made for plastic is the easiest but any should be fine. You will need to put it on fairly heavy if you don't want the light getting through. It usually take be 3 coats but I am pretty anal about no light getting through and to be honest one you push it up against a wall it is not as obvious.

Also, as Bas pointed out, make sure you paint the outside of the tank.

Use outdoor rustoleum, non water based.

I tape news paper over the top of the tank and along the side edges as well.
