I use one at work (a HACH brand), so I bring samples from my aquarium occasionally.
It has a salinty function, and I find it useful if I'm treating for ich, and want to bring the salinity at, or above 3ppt.

I would like to add, this is an expensive piece of gear, and I wouldn't/couldn't justify the cash outlay for it's limited use.

I think its practical value depends on the kind of fishes you intend to keep

For Central Americans it is a waste of money, for amazxonian / West Africa fishes it might be worth every penny

Do remember, fishes don't vcare for hardness, they care for osmotic values - and as almost all atuff influencing osmotic values are charged, the conductivity equals osmotic value

However, such meters are in every price available, and a 50 euro one might not be as good as a 500 euro one, but for our purposes they suffice - especially as you intend to use the same every time
