Inline heaters?

Postby Robo » Sun May 06, 2007 9:17 am

Has anyone tried out an inline heater, one that goes in the filter return line before the water goes back into the tank?? Seems like a good idea, one less thing hanging in the tank, but I am curious if anyone has any experience withh them.

I've used the Hydor ETH heaters for about a year and haven't had any trouble with them.

That is the one I am looking at. I did not realize that they had been on the market that long. Thanks.

I too use the Hydor, for over a year. Carefull not to let them go dry when still plugged in, I just fried one that way. Other than that they have worked well for me, and my tanks are in a 60"F basement during the winter months.

Expanding this to heating the entire fish room water supply... Has anyone ever used an in-line water heater on a fish room wide basis?

My inlines are on 2 banks of tanks, approx 300 gal per bank. On sump effluents as opposed to canisters, hard plumbed(sort of). I do have a couple stealths in the sumps as backups set to go on if the temp drops 5 degrees. They did go on this winter when the outside temps went below zero and the basement dropped into the 50s. Especially in the menerambo line that I try to keep at or above 84'F.
