What is a good fishing rod for river fishing?

I want to buy a fishing rod for my uncle in Ecuador. Looking for a fishing rod that i can take on the plane and can last daily fishing. tackle recommendations would be appreciated

Depends on what he's fishing for. A good all purpose rod would be a 7' medium action spinning rod paired with a spinning reel that holds 150-200yds of 12 lb test line. Ugly stick rods are unbreakable and fairly cheap, look into those.

I second the Ugly Stick. Good rod, small price.

A "travel rod" (two or three piece) would be good for this as well...
