I have some blood red parrot cichlids and everytime they are stressed, normally from bad water quality, they get black spots. that is a sign to me that i need to do a water change or check some other environmental variable and fix it. it has never been fatal for my parrots, and normally disappears within a day or two of fixing the problem. Test your water. High ammonia levels are usually what does it for my parrots.
