ich and C. notophthalmus

Postby timber » Sat Nov 29, 2008 9:06 pm

My trio of C notophthalmus have been battling ich for about 10 days and no matter what I try, it keeps getting worse.

I started with my standard treatment of raising the temp to 85 degrees, a tablespoon of salt per 10 gallons and the prescribed dosage of quick cure (formalin/ malachite green, 1 drop per gallon) I've been doing 100% water changes every other day.

I did this for 5 days and it got systematically worse. They now have skin damage and it looks like a bacterial infection is coming on. I have now switched over to Furoplex (I forget what exactly in this med, furazone, malachite green I think and one other ingredient) and am also using melafix.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what I might do? Am I over medicating them? Never had an infestation of ich like this before in my 25 years of keeping fish. Please help!!!
