Nannacara aureocephalus

I obtained 2 pairs of these a number of weeks ago.

Male #1:

Male #2:

The 2 pairs were put together in a 75cm x 30cm shallow tank.

It quickly became clear that 1 female was dominant, and she soon bred

the eggs dissapeared after 2 days, and I never saw the fry. I decided then to wait a short time, and then remove the submissive pair, and an odd corydoras that was in there. this time I never saw eggs, but it was clear the pair had spawned from the colour of the female, as she develops a very strong colouration.

Female with 1st spawn (not raised)

On the 2nd occasion they bred, I found fry close to free swimming, and knew the spawn had been successful.

The fry are really very tiny, and I think the success rate will be low, but the fry are currently healthy and feeding

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. I may have to go do a water change on my Nannacara now. Mine never look that good.
