Postby Fordtrannyman » Wed May 21, 2008 11:57 am

I got these wild caught Apistos. at the begining of the month from Dan Woodland during his visit to our club meeting.
I can't remember their name. I've already Pm'ed him! Quite stunning dwarf!

Same as on the apisto forum: A. trifasciata (A. cf. trifasciata Guaporé).

Dan-Is it possible this female is an A. agassizii and was already gravid?

Uummmmm, gravid is really only used in livebearers. As an egglayer, if she had eggs in her she would be Ovigerous. (sorry to be pedantic) :D

No, the female seems to show a faint hint of the diagonal band on her abdomen & is showing typical A. trifasciata brood dress, too. She also shows short serrations on the front spines of the dorsal fin (aggies have blunt spines), and the body is deeper and not as elongated as that of A. agassizii.

Very Cool! Thank you so much. These is an amazing sp. The parental care is phenominal.
I'm already gathering up more equipment and making plans for Apisto Species only tanks.

Hi Hudson,
You should ask for the book, South American Dwarf Cichlids by Hans J. Mayland and Dieter Bork, ISBN 3-931-70229-4, Verlag A.C.S.
I think you would really enjoy it and it would be a big help in identifying all the Dwarf Cichlids you have access to beside all the species profiles.
Just a suggestion for your Birthday or other Holiday present to ask for. Amazon.com usually has some good deals on used copies.

Hudson,
If you buy a used copy from amazon.com the book may be less than $20 US but it is much more new. All the used books I have bought off amazon.com have been in very good condition.

You can find information on the book here:

http://www.lisaslairbookstore.com/books/Freshwater-Aquarium/464/South-American-Dwarf-Cichlids---Apistogramma%2C-Crenicara%2C-Microgeophagus

As everyone said, look around and you should be able to locate a good used copy for less than I would charge for it brand new.
