Nanochromis transvestitus dithers

Postby mk_ultra » Sun Mar 23, 2008 7:12 pm

I have a solid young pair in a 10g with caves rocks and plants. Bottom is sand and peat moss. But the question is which kind of dither should I use in the tank? My p.h is ~6.5. I hope to push that down to at least 5 if I'm lucky. My female is brutal and chases the poor male everywhere. I'm thinking: shoal of tetras/barbs or Syn nigriventris. Cories are not completely out of the picture but I would prefer to keep it Afro-centric.

Based on your description, you have one specimen of each sex, not a pair. In all honesty, I think that your 2 fish need a larger tank, at least a 20 long.

When I was breeding this species, I started them out in a 20 long and had to move them to my 60 gallon before they stopped squabbling with eachother. I had a bunch of diptail pencils for dithers in the tank, which seemed to work just fine.
