What should I do?

Postby Cichlidfever » Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:30 pm

I just noticed today that I have Red Jewel Fry, however, the pair are sharing a 90 gallone tank with 2 Escondidos, and 3 other Red Jewels. Should I leave the fry in the tank or scoup them up and put them in a breeders net. It is a small square net that would still allow them to be in the same tank, but separated in the breeders net.

They wont last long in a small net - they will need room to grow (their own tank) if you want to keep them.
Or at a push you could divide off the tank if it's big enough?

If you do nothing, the parents will kill the other fish

if you take to fry out, they will miss any imprinting, and these fishes are not popular anyway (ask your LFS whether thay would like to have your fry in a few months) so I would destroy the fry

Is Red Jewels normal form of an hemichromis (lifalli or bimaculatus) ? If yes, It should be an african cichlids ... then ask to an african specialist ...

In this case is it a common fish in your country ? Then don"t try to raise young or you will be invated by a fish that nobody want to buy or have ...
