New 'Pelvicachromis' species

Postby Randall » Sat Feb 19, 2005 2:14 pm

Hello friends,

Very recently, a new putative Pelvicachromis species from Guinea made its way into the US. Although very little is known about it, what is currently known about 'Pelvicachromis' sp. "Blue Fin" may be found here...

Thank you.

All the best,

Randall Kohn

Have you fed your fish a shrimp today?

I saw that the other day when I was looking at the site. What a cool looking "krib" type!! I bet that one would sell VERY well if it got into the main hobby. 8)

A very beautiful fish! You need to stop posting things like this, Randall! I don't have enough tanks as it is!

I think I'll have to ask Toyin about getting some for me. He lives right around the corner from my parents.

Ted's is a very fine account indeed, only this species is not found in the Kolente sysem, but rather considerably north.

i'm thinking about getting 5-6 of these from Toyin ... can you tell me if they'll do well in my hard, alkaline water?

Keeping them in hard, alkaline water may not be much of an issue. Depends upon how hard and alkaline. I would not keep them in parameters equal to the rift lakes. Breeding them and raising the fry would need softer water.

Now this fish has made it's way into the new (June 06) issue of Aquarium Fish magazine. It appears to be a very nice looking fish.

Hi all,

Now it is described in a new gender, it appears that Randall was right to call them 'Pelvicachromis' ;)

It's really a nice fish to maintain and breed. It is important to keep in it aquarium in the long term, considering that he is thought to be endemic of a little creek near a mine, and all the more as there is some political trouble in Guinea.
