An outstanding new book concerning western African cichlids is due out of press in May 2004. The Cichlid Fishes of Western Africa by Mag. Dr. Anton Lamboj is comprehensive. It covers all of the species of the region, not just a sampling.

I have sections of the unpublished manuscript, in advance, and I'm telling you, this book picks up where others have left off. The information and attention to detail is simply amazing! Pubisher Birgit Schmettkamp Verlag advises that the book will be 256 pages and contain 590 color photographs.

Die Cichlden des westlichen Afrikas by Anton Lamboj (ISBN 3-928819-32-1) is already available. I purchased my copy from Harro Hieronemus whose email address is mailto:harro.hieronimus@t-online.de. When it is available, Harro will be carrying the English language edition as well.

I recently got the Lamboj book. I can't wait to read it. There looks to be so many cichlids in there I don't know about now. I have read a few sections of it so far and it seems great!
