Hemichromis cf Paynei - 2nd successful spawn

Postby nicktc » Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:45 pm

This is the 2nd successful spawn of my wild caught Hemichromis pair.

Althought I got bought them as Cristatus but I think their closest match is the Paynei.
The lack of irridescent spots, more oval lateral spots closer to the dorsal than to the midlateral line and the golden markings on the sides of the head points to the Paynei.

Anyway ... back to the topic,

29 Feb 2012 (Wednesday) was when the 2nd spawn first occurred. Probably in the late morning or afternoon when I was away at work.

Seems like the eyes were already form.

Friday morning (the 3rd day), the eggs were all gone but the parents were taking turn guarding a certain corner in the tank, the eggs have probably developed into wrigglers.
