Pelvicachromis Pulcher ID Help

Postby Treefork » Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:21 pm

First time posting on the forum. I got this krib about two months ago.

I thought it was a female but now that it's grown, it's more obvious that it's a male. Now the only the I'm having trouble with is it doesn't look much like my other male kribs. I have a full grown adult and another young one that I purchased at the same time. The dorsal fin is not like the other male or my adult male krib, but reminds me more of the dorsal fin of my male pelvicachromis taeniatus. Here's the other male krib.

and here's my male p. taeniatus.

So anyone have any ideas or opinions on this fish? The other thing to note is that he doesn't have yellow pigment in his face like a krib, but instead it is red as the first photo shows. Could this be just another krib morph or perhaps a hybrid?

IMHO it's just another form of P. pulcher, just look at the head profile, it reminds much more typical krib than P. taeniatus.

The bottom picture is P. taeniatus.... most likely the Moliwe form based upon the pattern on spots on the caudal fin.
