Dave Tourle was born in London in August 1954, but has lived for most of his life in Brighton, East Sussex, which is located on England's southern coast. When he left school, he started his working life as an administrator in Local Government, where he remained for three years. This was followed by two years of employment as a fireman in the Brighton Fire Service. However, he has spent the last 23 years working as a Vault Officer with a leading international Security Company.
As well as keeping and breeding cichlids, his other interests include diving, foreign travel, painting, karate and computers. Obviously, some of these hobbies can be combined to enhance his overall experience and enjoyment of life. The best example being two trips to Lake Malawi with Ad Konings to dive and observe the Rift Lake cichlids in their natural habitat, and then paint them at leisure on his return to England. At the moment, he is devoting most of his spare time to the endangered cichlid species of Madagascar and with his partner, Sonia Guinane is a very keen supporter of all conservation efforts.
