particles on surface

Postby fmkeylock » Sun Dec 18, 2011 11:18 am

hi pam

i have a 75 gallon tank with a sump filter.. i clean out sock once a week when i do my water change , 50% I clean gravel and sides of glass. lately i have noticed fine particles on the surface, almost like it is dust. i only have two mbuna in tank while i am waiting for rest to be shipped. Any ideas what this could be?? water used to be crystal clear the tank is 3 months old. lfs said put in two charcoal wraps in my sump that will take care of it, but i don't trust anything this guy says?? thanks

Hi FM!

Well adding a charcoal filter pad certainly won't hurt anything and it will polish your water. But, if you have small particles you will have to filter those out some how. Usually people do a prefilter, but sounds like you are doing that already. Filter floss is a finer material, and it may help you catch it better. You can put it in the first compartment where the water runs from the tank to the sump.

I am glad to hear you are doing regular maintenance, I know your fish appreciate it!
