aggressive red kadango

Postby muddassar1 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 6:20 am

hi Pam,
as per your suggestion i removed the convict cichlid from my malawian tank, also i removed two labidochromis and one blue morph.
now is have.
1 red kadango(copadichromis borleyi)
2 labidochromis caeruleus
2 cyrtocara moori(malawi blue dolphins)
2 tiny yoyo loach in a 100 litre tank.

the problem is that my red kadango is too agressive about the dolphins. he keeps chasing them all the time. and he is not at all agressive with other fish. he never notices them even if they stray into his territory.
but he chases the dolphins all around the tank. and he does not beats them . he just goes around them flares himself and then pushes themn into corner and then chase them. similar routine all the time. i tried having the red kadango trapped in the net for some time. but when i leave him. he does the same to the dolphins. aren't red kadangos supposed to be mildly tempered??? and why is he doing this to the dolphins.

Hi muddassar1,

Your tank is just too small for these Haps. The borleyi wants them out of "his" tank, and he can't figure out why they haven't left yet, so he will just end up chasing them to death. C. borleyi are what I call a mellow hap, but not in a small aquarium. So how are the plans going for a bigger tank?? because you seriously need one if you want to keep these cichlids.

You might want to check out some of the dwarf cichlids, that don't get over 3" and there are several from Lake Tanganyika, South America, West Africa. They would be better suited to your tank, and you still get the fun of having cichlids.
