I was on my holiday last week. Went to a place called Dalyan in Turkey. The place is an aquatic connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Lake of Koycegiz, so the water is quite salty.
Sitting on the dock of the hotel I recognized "some" fish, that looked exactly like cichlidae! I grabbed a fishing rod and caught the fish with no harm. I tried the rest of the day to catch another and finally I had two. I vented them and one was a male and the other was a female. Luckily I drove back home (180 miles) with a battery operated air pump and a bucket in my car. The female has beaten the male down to death, but I still have the female.
I've tried my best to name the fish with no success so far. The body is a perfect ExCichlosoma, it looks like my old Hericthys. Tonight she is in my Malawi tank since it is the only one I got, so far very peacefully except for my Yellow Labs didn't like her much since she is huge.
This week I'll try to photo shoot the missy, and will ask for your help in the ID. Didn't want to start shooting flashes on her face so early.
