Hi,
I am a university student and we are conducting a test using Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum as our predator and glass shrimp as our prey. We are testing the shrimps camoflauge-ablity and predator selection. I was wondering 1) would this chilid respond to the prey?? attack it
The chilid will not eat the shrimp (shrimp is contained in a vial.
Is this a good idea for using this type of chilid??

Hi Niki,

I know you are asking a serious question, but it really gave me and Gary a good laugh, and it was a great way to end a Monday!

The convict will of course show some interest when the vial is introduced into the tank, but how long will he keep trying to attack it is the question. I think they are pretty smart and once they figure out that they can't get at it , he will just go about his regular business. Unless of course you didn't feed him, and then he may try a little harder.

We figure the shrimp is going to die of a heart attack, the first time it sees the convict!
